Description: See Jesse's first panel on Fatherhood and the Community: https://youtu.be/enAhpGt73PA Politicon 2017 panel discussion "No One's Above the Law," led by moderator Steven Olikara, featuring libertarian Austin Peterson, California Democrat Rep. Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), Atlantic writer Vann Newkirk, BOND founder Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, and CNN contributor & Republican consultant Shermichael Singleton: They talk about criminal justice reform, dealing with so-called "mass incarceration," the relationship between blacks and minorities and police, the justice system, racism, President Donald Trump's Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and the War on Drugs. http://jesseleepeterson.com Jesse says that the solution to preventing crime is FAMILY, fathers and mothers getting married and raising their children in the right way. But instead, liberals (and libertarians) lie to blacks and criminals and falsely call the police, Republicans, and authorities "racist." Karen Bass tries to interrupt and speak over Jesse — he tells her she CAN'T be rude to me. Jesse points out, "There's no such thing as "racism. Racism has never existed." It's a lie used to keep whites scared and blacks angry. Black Lives Matter is a radical, evil, agitative organization worse than the KKK. Liberals and libertarians want to call drug crimes a "chemical" or "health" issue and stop punishing drug dealers and abusers, but they mock the role of the family. Karen does pay lip service later to "family," at once calling it "key" but at the same time downplaying it and saying it's "not the only thing." Vann Newkirk indirectly accuses Jesse of NOT being for black and Hispanic families because Jesse's for tougher crime laws and putting criminals ("fathers") into jails and prisons. He wants to stop deaths and arrests from police interactions by stopping police from engaging with dangerous, mentally ill drug abusers, reducing illicit activity by installing streetlights, and "investing" in neighborhood watch groups. During Q&A, people ask about whether Jim Crow broke up families (which it did not do even close to the extent we see today), concern for victims of criminals, how to help single mothers raise kids without their fathers, how to bring all the concerns together and coordinate sensible reform, and how to prevent transitional age youth (TAYs) from getting into crime and jail or prison in the first place. Shermichael Singleton acts like no one talked about preventing crime, but Karen Bass and another person did talk about investing in education ahead of time, and Jesse had already said that if blacks had married fathers and mothers who instilled moral character in their children, you wouldn't see the level of crime in the black community you see today. Karen Bass again says that she has a lot of common ground on the panel, then dismissively says "except for maybe one" to laughs, and Jesse warns her that she can't do that with him, that he doesn't accept that kind of thing, as she acted as though the things he said had no real validity. She got upset that Jesse pointed out the black family was much more intact, and blacks were much more moral in the South during the Jim Crow era, even with segregation and some unfair laws. She scarecrows his argument and says: We're not going to argue the validity of Jim Crow! She says that young people might not know that it was "Apartheid" in the United States. She's more concerned about that than talking about how to return black fathers to homes, and return blacks to morality.
