From there, the R&B singer talks about the night when Mateen punched her for the first time, after he discovered she was seeing other men, while they were separated. She then explains that Mateen struck her in the face so that he could control her and put fear in her heart. This occurred approximately one month before Mateen's death. As the discussion comes to an end, she reveals that R&B singer Kenny Smoov was renting a room from her and he was present when Mateen hit her. Kenny did not intervene but her son tried to.
