Today I am making a Classic Old Fashioned Southern Bread Recipe and this brings me back to my Childhood with my Grandmother for Soul Food Sunday Dinner every other Sunday, Hot Water Cornbread!

1 1/2 cups self rising yellow cornmeal mix
1/2 cup self rising flour
2 tbsp honey
4 tbsp unsalted butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups hot water
Oil, for frying
In a small bowl, add the water and butter (or margarine) place it in the microwave for 3-3 1/2 minutes till the water boils and the butter melts; or on the stovetop over high heat until it comes to a boil then turn off the heat.
In a large bowl, add the cornmeal and flour; whisk or sift until well combined. Next add in the honey and slowly add in enough hot water and butter mixture for the desire consistency (be careful not to make it soupy), mix until well incorporated. Form the cornbread mixture into patties (any size) then place them on a 9x13 in cookie sheet and set aside.
In a cast iron skillet or large pan over medium heat, add the oil and bring it to temperature. Carefully add the cornbread patties into the hot oil and fry for about 2 minutes on each both until golden brown. Remove the cornbread patties from the oil and drain them on a pan with paper towels. Place hot water cornbread onto a serving plate, serve and enjoy!
